Charity Auction Item - Weekend away via the Tranz Alpine to the West Coast
The Tranz Alpine Christchurch to Greymouth rail trip is rated one of the world's greatest scenic railway journeys, and we are very happy to have this package courtesy of the team at Conway United Travel,Ashburton.
From your carriage you will get spectacular views of the farmland of the Canterbury Plains, the gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. The train then climbs into the Southern Alps before descending through beech rainforest to the West Coast town of Greymouth - the starting point to visits to Punakaiki, Shanty Town or the Glaciers.
Its an ideal weekend getaway and from personal experience of being on this trip, the majestic scenery and high country farming never fails to impress.
An open air viewing carriage lets you get even closer to the stunning scenery and gives many photographic opportunities.
The trip is 223 kilometre's long and takes just 4 1/2 hours. There are 19 tunnels, 4 viaducts - the highest being "Staircase" standing at 73 metres.
The "Tranzalpine" departs Christchurch and Greymouth daily.
Accommodation for the night in Greymouth is also included in this fantastic package.
